LATAN is pleased to offer Louisianians with disabilities the opportunity to borrow a variety of Assistive Technology equipment and devices for temporary use prior to making a purchase, while a device is being repaired, while waiting for new equipment to be delivered, or as a short-term accommodation.

AT available for loan includes devices for:

  • Vision
  • Hearing
  • Speech
  • Computer Access
  • Environmental Control and Switch Access
  • Daily Living
  • Mobility, Seating, and Positioning
  • Learning, Cognitive and Developmental Support

Is There a Waiting List?

Requests for Device Loans are accepted in the order they are received. If a request is made for a device which is currently unavailable, you may choose to be placed on a waiting list for notification once the device becomes available for loan. Interested borrowers must submit all required documentation before they can be added to the waiting list.

In order to confirm the availability of an AT Device and determine fees associated with a loan, please contact a program representative at the center nearest you.

Who is Eligible to Borrow?

  • Individuals with any type of disability, functional limitation or age-related issue and who are Louisiana citizens
  • Agencies and organizations that work with individuals with any type of disability or limitation
  • Employers of people with disabilities, to help them determine what AT will work best on the job

What is the Length of Time for the Loan?

An individual may borrow AT devices from LATAN for a period of thirty-five (35) days. This includes the day it leaves LATAN to the day it is received by LATAN from the borrower.

Any request for extension of the device loan must be submitted to the LATAN Device Loan Program in writing, which includes e-mail, fax, and US Postal service, and received by LATAN ten (10) days prior to the expiration of the original loan period. Additional fees will apply.

Are There Any Fees?

Yes. Fees are dependent upon the value of the device and include costs associated with technical assistance during the loan of the device. Additional fees may be incurred due to travel or extensive device programming.

LATAN accepts the following types of payments from the borrower:

Check, Money Order, PayPal, or Major Credit Card Through PayPal. (You do not have to have a PayPal account.)

How Do I Apply for a Device Loan?

Contact the center nearest you to receive the "Device Loan Application Request Form" and for information regarding fees and device availability.
